LAGNIAPPE

I love New Orleans and decided to use one of their favorite words to describe a bonus or something extra included in the offering.

In this case, these are some earlier (or later in the case of the World Series panoramic) images related to the subject of baseball stadiums.

Since my family didn't travel that much when I was a kid, and I lived in Texas, I only got to visit one ballpark, Sportsmans Park in St. Louis, in 1955. Nonetheless, black and white TV and Dizzy Dean transported me to many of those classic stadiums now gone, Ebbets Field, Crosley Stadium, the Polo Grounds, the list goes on and on.

I did manage to catch a game at Tiger Stadium before the wrecking crew came, but otherwise,  Arlington Stadium and the Astrodome were the only other parks I chronicled in addition to the 2000 collection. I offer them here as a bonus.

As a brief explanation of the pages that follow, I offered two alternative views of County as another of Wrigley, from 2000, as well as the first pitch of World Series Game 3 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, the First Pitch in the history of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Opening Night, March 31, 1998, and finally Roger Clemens pitchng on the Fourth of July 1994, the first time I saw the Green Monster!

The second page offers two views of the Astrodome, one a collage assembled digitally during the last month it served the Astros, September 1999, Nolan Ryan on the mound in 1993 at Arlington Stadium  the first sports photo I took which I covered on my home page, and finally a  panoramic of the venerable Tiger Stadium, which also closed its doors in 1999, five years after this shot was taken July 8, 1994.
