THE STADIUMS IN ORDER OF THE JOURNEY

Small Heading

Page Title

If there was one reason which compelled me to take the idea of traveling to all the major leagues in 2000, it was to visit and photograph the House that Aaron Built, Milwaukee's aging County Stadium. Had a crane accident not occurred in 1999, that year and not 2000 would have been the last year for the humble ballpark. I might have never done the trip.

The stadium panoramic works are presented in the order in which I took them, starting in Houston and ending in Arlington, less than three hundred miles apart. I checked and rechecked the schedules early and often, until the magic date to begin the odyssey was the 21st of April. Before I returned to Austin and my wife and son fifty seven days later, I had traveled over thirteen thousand miles and fulfilled another dream, inspired by Simon and Garfunkel's America.  I was also looking for America and I truly loved seeing the beauty of this great nation.

I traveled by Greyhound bus and stayed in youth hostels as I wanted to spend my funds on seats where I could appreciate  all the stadiums in their individuality.

Although three new stadiums opened that year, almost half of the stadiums pictured here have been been replaced or significantly altered. Olympic Stadium in Montreal lost its Expos to Washington, and most of the multi-purpose stadiums are gone and in their place, exciting new baseball-only parks invite new fans and old ones alike.

If I repeat the trip in 2020, I want to do a documentary  to have a record beyond the works and my narrative. Who knows?!
